Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

Family history. Thank you
(requested on 28 05 2011)
For some years I've been researching the Hamilton-Dundas family (Dundas of Duddingstoun) as potential ancestors. I am aware of a Captain John Hamilton Dundas (Captain in 1839) who died as a Major in 1867 in Tipperary Ireland. He was named after his father's (Gabriel Hamilton Dundas)father, John Hamilton Dundas. The elder John Hamilton Dundas had 5 sons, 4 of whom he outlived. Some of his sons served in India (where my gg-grandfather was born in 1837) I am wondering if the John Hamilton Dundas memorialized on the monument would have been the son of one of these four sons. Is there additional information on the memorial? (Other than the other Dundas name? --a man whom I do not believe is a Dundas of Duddingstoun descendent) Many, many thanks in advance for providing this service.
