1827731754first name on monumentI believe that the burial year given is incorrect and should be 1837. The church register gives the date of death has 9 April 1837. There is also a transcription of the monumental inscription in Monumental Inscriptions in St Cuthbert's Churchyard, Edinburgh (Older Portion), compiled by John Smith and published by the Scottish Record Society, Edinburgh, 1915.

For more information on one of the individual named above, please click on their name.

Please note that all ages and dates of birth in red have been calculated and are probably not on the monument.

The calculated dates of birth should be treated with caution as in many cases it can be one year out.

The calculated dates of birth should also be treated with caution as the ages given on monuments are often inaccurate.

The names above are all the names that are listed on the grave monument. It is most likely that only the entries with dates and ages are interred in the grave.

I have just discovered that the Reverend George Paxton is an ancestor of my husband, William Christie. While we do visit Edinburgh from time to time, our permanent home is in Sydney, Australia, and it will be a while until I can visit St Cuthbert's myself. I would be very grateful for a copy of the image. Many thanks, Mrs Patrice Christie
