Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

Researching Macao's history, and curious as to how this surname arose. I will be looking at some sources in the NLS that seem to relate to the same person. Additionally, I am engaged in a major geneaological research project for Macao, including names of British people there. Thanks very much!
