Following the outbreak of the First World War, in August 1915 he volunteered for the Royal Scots Fusiliers, even though he had only just turned 17 years of age. He was killed in action on 1 July 1916, the first day of the Battle of the Somme, during the 2nd Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers successful attack on the village of Montauban. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial in France.

I'm researching Henry Gladstone Mawson, my grandmother's brother, who was killed during the Battle of the Somme on 1 July 1916. I'm hoping to write his story in time for the centenary of his death, and I would very much like to illustrate it with a picture of his gravestone. Thank you.
