Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

Charlotte was the d of Hugh Macaskill of Runan Dunan,Skye, born out of wedlock as he married Jessie Mackinnon in 1840. Not sure who the her mother was. Jessie was unable to have children so on Hugh's death Charlotte who was living with Hugh in 1861, was the major beneficiary. Trouble was Hugh had more creditors than assets but his friend and executor employed Charlotte to detail the household effects for 25 pounds and she left for England and took up employment as a lady's companion. Really surprised she had money for a gravestone. There is no mention of her having any contact with Hugh's siblings and families Allan Blair

Charlotte MacAskill born South Uist, Scotland, the daughter of Hugh MacAskill and (1799-1863) and Jessie MacKinnon (1806-1857) married 26 August 1840 Bracadale, Scotland. Hugh MacAskill was the original proprietor of what is now Talisker Whiskey on the Isle of Skye. (tolmiesociety.com)
