John Craven and Elizabeth Craven (nee Lindores) are my gggg grandparents
(requested on 28 06 2016)
John and Elizabeth (Lindores) Craven are my 3xgreat-grandparents. Their eldest son, George, moved to Scotland to become (eventually) a gamekeeper. His son, Andrew (also a gamekeeper, as were all of HIS sons), moved down to Derbyshire with his family, including my grandfather - also Andrew. I had gone to Alnwick some 4 years ago but never found the gravestone (mind you, it was pouring with rain at the time!). I was told it was probably one of the ones that was so degraded by the weather to be illegible. I would be ever grateful to receive this - and I promise, I will acknowledge receipt. John & Elizabeth are my GGG grandparents through their daughter Frances Craven Thankyou
(requested on 23 05 2017)
I have been researching the Percy Tenantry Volunteers on behalf of Alnwick Castle. John Craven was the Sgt Major of the Northern PTV Riflemen. He was present at the Battle of Copenhagen with the 'Experimental Corps of Riflemen' (95th Regt) and was awarded a medal of valour form Lord Nelson. I have looked for his grave in the churchyard but could not find it. It would be nice to recognise this mans exploits. He is included in a new exhibition at the Castle. Any further information about him would be added to the Castle records.
