George Clayton | 1849 | first name on monument | of Aislaby. Age eroded away. - George Clayton (1776-1849) was the son of Robert Clayton & Jane Smith. He was baptised at the same church on 20 June 1776. He married Susannah Mason, the illegitimate daughter of Sarah Mason, on 30 Mar 1820 at All Saints Parish Church, Stamford, Lincolnshire. They appear to have had no issue. He was mentioned in his father's will dated 19 March 1831 as 'of Easton near Stamford in the County of Lincoln'. By 1841 he was back in the North East of England as a 'publican' of the Black Bull Inn at Aislaby. His wife, Susannah, survived him remaining at the Black Bull Inn until after 1861. |
