Lauris was the first person that Proust asked for advice on the use of the name Guérmant as the central character of 'A la recherche du temps perdu'; and Lauris and his wife were the models for Saint-Loup and Gilberte in the novel . Their tomb is close to that of Julia Bartet; who also partially served as a model for another character in the same epic book. In earlier century (and a different literary style!); the Marquis de Sade was engaged to a member of this same family. |
