Major John Cotton Worthington of the Sussex Fencible Cavalry (1768-1826) was my 3 x great grandfather on my mother's side. John Cotton Worthington was first married to Sarah Ley Tickell (former wife of Richard Tickell, a dramatist) in 1796 and then secondly to Margaret Sibbald (daughter of George Sibbald Esq. and Margaret Gordon) in 1811 at Northwood, Hampshire. John Cotton Worthington died in 1826 at Spedhurst, Kent from Apoplexy. There was no children between the union of Sarah Ley Tickell and John Cotton Worthington but there were seven children between Margaret and John Cotton. My 2 x great grand father was John Henry Worthington Esq.
