Francis Horner grave monument: legible names and details
full name | burial date | age | birth date | relationship | notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Francis Horner | 1775 | 3 | 1772 | first name on monument | Francis Horner was born in 1770 and baptised at Middlesmoor. He died in 1773 (as is clearly shown on the gravestone). |
Francis Horner | 1775 | brother of Francis Horner | Francis was born at Newbridge near Wath in 1773 shortly after the death of his elder brother, Francis. He was baptised at Middlesmoor but died later that year and was subsequently buried at Pateley Bridge. His baptism records him as the son of Barnaby Horner of Daubergill. (Daubergill forms the parish boundary between Middlesmoor and Pateley Bridge, which explains why this Horner family performed some ceremonies in one church and some in the other). | ||
Barnabas Horner | 1821 | 83 | 1738 | father of Francis Horner | Barnabas Horner was born in 1737 at High Bishopside and baptised at Pateley Bridge as Bernard Horner, the seventh child of Thomas Horner. He lived most of his life in Newbridge near Wath and was a farm labourer and linen weaver. He was variously known as Berny, Barny, and Barnaby. He had a son, born in 1775 at Pateley Bridge, who was baptised as Bernard but also known as Barnabas. He had another son called John born and baptised at Pateley Bridge in 1784. John became a tenant farmer at Parceval Hall, near Skyreholme and his parents lived with him there until their respective deaths. Interestingly, they were both buried at Pateley Bridge close to their other children who had died young. |
Anna Horner | 1824 | 82 | 1742 | mother of Francis Horner | Anna Horner nee Beckwith was married to Bernard/Barnabas Horner in 1767 at Middlesmoor. |
