Donald Leitch (b. about 1781, Dunnet, Caithness) and Elizabeth Walker (b. about 1781, Inveresk, Midlothian) were my ggggrandparents residing at 24 Calton Hill (1833) and operating a clothier and furnisher business at 58/60 Princes Street from about 1819 - 1833. Their daughter, Anne (b. 10/06/1818; d. 10/02/1986) was married to George Beattie, Architect (b. 1809, d. 11/06/1872), both buried at St Cuthbert's Churchyard and named on the stone of William Beattie (d. 11/08/1837). George Beattie and Sons (William Hamilton Beattie and George Lennox Beattie) were Architects and engineers who designed the City Poor House, Graiglockhart; the North British Hotel (now the Balmoral); the Carlton Hotel; Patrick Thomsons building; the Jenners building and the Braid Hills Hotel in Edinburgh and were involved in the first Edinburgh tram network. As I live in Zimbabwe I'm unable to assist with your excellent work.
