However in 1803 he joined a troop of actors and appeared the following year for the first time in a play by Schiller. Later he became a well-known performer in Germany France and England appearing in Shakesperean roles. His three nephews - Edward Charles-Auguste and Gustave - all became well-known Shakespearean actors.|
