Martha Burdy
1920651855first name on monumentCorrection to name: Due to the gravestone being rather worn, one could understand the name to be Martha. However I am sure this is the correct gravestone for my Great-Grandfather's sister who's name was Mary Ann (née Scorer). All the other details on the gravestone fit in with the information I have available.
Henry Burdy
1941861855husband of Martha BurdyHenry Burdy was employed at Thornaby Station from 02.06.1868 starting as railway cler, hes had several promotion, finally being made Station Master 15.09.1894. He retired after nearly 54 years service to the North-Eastern Railway in 1922.

Please note that all ages and dates of birth in red have been calculated and are probably not on the monument.

The calculated dates of birth should be treated with caution as in many cases it can be one year out.

The calculated dates of birth should also be treated with caution as the ages given on monuments are often inaccurate.

The names above are all the names that are listed on the grave monument. It is most likely that only the entries with dates and ages are interred in the grave.

Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

Mary A Burdy (possible that the transcription here is Martha is incorrect?) was my Great-Grandfather's eldest sister. Henry Burdy her husband and former Station Master at Thornaby Railway Station. My Grandmother lived with Mary and Henry when orphaned at the age of 7. I am sure this is the correct gravestone, even if a discrepancy in Mary' name,as the birth and death dates correspond to the research I have made. As I live in Germany. I have no possibilty in visiting cemeteries in the UK, so am very pleased that you have organised this website! Looking forward to receiving a copy of the image soon, and thanks for your help in advance. Keep up the super work! :o) Best wishes, Jane Rennecke
