Please note that all ages and dates of birth in red have been calculated and are probably not on the monument.

The calculated dates of birth should be treated with caution as in many cases it can be one year out.

The calculated dates of birth should also be treated with caution as the ages given on monuments are often inaccurate.

The names above are all the names that are listed on the grave monument. It is most likely that only the entries with dates and ages are interred in the grave.

Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

This family group is part of my family history project. Mary Ann Grey, formerly known as Haynes, Dix nee Browning was a convict sent to Tasmania. She married there and her son Charles Dix was born there too. When they arrived in Sth Australia it was with JT Haynes a whaler and they used the Haynes surname. MA Haynes became an early publican in Port Adelaide. Her only descendants now live in USA and were not interested when I contacted them years ago. There may be descendants in NSW, 2 girls, whose names I dont know. THANK YOU for having the images online, and available.

Edward John GREY arrived in South Australia with his parents William and Elizabeth, brother Henry and sister Mary Jane (my GG Grandmother) aboard the 'Hooghly' in 1839. He married Mary Ann HAYNES in Adelaide in 1845. Then it gets wierd. In Melbourne General Cemetery there is a headstone (available on Billiongraves) with four names, Henry James GREY, George Jenkins GREY, who died in Hindmarsh!, Edward John GREY whose funeral notice in 1891 mentioned he was a colonist of 52 years and in Melbourne for more than 30 years, and the fourth name was EJ's wife, Jane Mary who died in 1880 aged 67. The GREY death ages tally closely with their English birth records from Familysearch. I'm confused, so I am hoping the gravestone photos may help a little.
