Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

I am trying to understand more about Dr John Thatcher who established the Edinburgh Lying-in Institution. His son followed him in this endeavour. John Thatcher taught hundreds of women and men midwifery skills in this institution for the poor. The head stone looks like a history in itself. I am planning to visit Edinburgh in August 2012 and will look for this grave if it is the Dr John Thatcher I am looking for.
