He served in the Suffolk Regiment, 9th Battalion and is likely to have fell assaulting a German fortified trench system called the Quadrilateral near to the village of Ginchy, on the 15th September 1916 (known as the 3rd battle of the Somme).

Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

Fred Wilson is my great uncle who died on 15th September 1916 on the Somme whilst i believe assaulting a German trench system called the quadrilateral. I visited his grave this year and aim to find out more about Fred. Kind Regards Gary.
