Alexander's father, James, farmed Earnslaw, Berwickshire. JTT named the highest mountain in the Wakatipu Mount Earnslaw. JTT painted this gravestone while back in the UK in 1878. The full text is: Sacred to the memory of Alexander Thomson of Glororum son of James Thomson Esq of Earnslaw Berwickshire He died Oct 8th 1830 aged 37 Janet Turnbull his wife died at Dunse March 4th 1867 aged 72 Douglas son of the above died Oct 21st 1830 aged 3 months James eldest son of the above lost at sea Nov 25th 1845 aged 28
