General; Baron Jean-joseph Triaire Commander Légion d'H | 1850 | 86 | 1764 | first name on monument | Triaire was born in the Cevennes in southern France; and commissionned into the army in a cavalry regiment 1783. From 1791-96 he served in France and italy; and was wounded at several battles; and from 1796-99 he served in Italy under Ordener. He then served in Switzerland and Germany; was captured in Bavaria in 1800 and released in 1801 when he received a sword of honneur; and became one of the first promotion of the Légion d'Honneur. In 1805 he was appointed ADC to Eugène Beauharnais; the son of the Empress Josephine by her first marriage and adopted son of Napoléon. Beauharnais had just been appointed Viceroy of Italy; and was married to a Bavarian princess. He served with Beauharnais for the rest of his career; including the campaigns in Italy and Austria in 1809-10; and was created baron in 1810. In 1812 Triaire was appointed Brigadier-General; and joined Beauharnais on the Russian campaign; after which they returned to Italy. Following Napoléon's abdication in 1814; Beauharnais and Triaire were exiled in Bavaria; where Triaire remained until 1824. In 1832 he finally returned to France; and married Accacia Modeste Aublet de St-Edme in 1835. He was decorated with several foreign orders during his career. |
