Sarah Ann Perring Baptised Mary Ann Knowles, daughter of Robert Knowles and Sarah HOdge, Brixham,1849. Mother died one month after her birth. Taken in by family friend when father went to Hull. Father Robert Knowles, a fisherman, returned to Brixham, married sister of caregiver, but drowned off Start Point, Devon in 1853. Daughter later sent to London orphanage, but came back to Brixham and married William Perring, a fisherman. She was baptised Mary Ann, added Sarah to her name early on (a link with her mother) and in the end dropped the 'Mary Ann' part altogether. Eve ntually moved permanently to Lowestoft with her husband and most of her children in the early 1900s.
