1de PérignonCatherine-Dominique de Pérignon1754181864commissioned into the army in 1769 he resigned in 1786 because his lack of noble blood blocked his possibility of advancement In 1789 he became a local judge in the south of France and in 1791 was elected to the new French Parliament Soon afterwards he resigned his seat and rejoined the army with the rank of Lt Col He rapidly distinguished himself in the combats of southern France and was promoted to general in 1793 He was once again elected to Parliament in 1795 and then became ambassador to Spain from 1796-98 He returned to service in italy in 1799 In 1801 he began an active career as a senator supporting Napoléon In 1806 he was appointed governor of Parma and in 1808 was given command of French troops in Naples He remained loyal to the Bourbons during the Hundred Days and in 1817 was appointed military governor of Paris211172

2GourgaudGaspard Gourgaud1783185269Napoléon described Gourgaud as - my creation; my child - son of a musician at the court chapel of Louis XVI he was a pupil of the élite Ecole Polytechique in 1799 and commissioned in 1802 He distinguished himself by his bravery in Austria Germany and Spain participating in many of the great Napleonic victories before his appointment to Napoléon's personal staff in 1811 He participated in the Russsian campaign and saved Napoléon from an assasination attempt in Moscow in 1812 and was named baron as a result He distinguished himself by his bravery once again in Germany and France from 1813-1814 and he quickly rallied to Napoléon during the Hundred Days He was one of the group of generals who surrounded Napoléon at the end of the battle of Waterloo and accompanied him to Paris Napoléon chose him to carry his request for exile to the Prince Regent in England and when Gourgaud was refused a passage Napoléon chose Gourgaud to accompa211173
