DANIELDANIEL, ALLITT, MATHER, GREEN,Thanks for the photos of my Dad's cousins graves at Codnor. My Dad's Mum was Annie Marie Spence and her parents and siblings settled in Denby. Annie Marie's Dad (Richard)'s family originated from Huddersfield and Richard was the only one to stay in this area. They have all passed away now - including my Dad and all but one of his seven brothers and sisters. I am trying to find out as much as I can about how/where they lived, what they did and anything of interest. I'd love to see any photographs if anyone can help. Many thanks again to Charles and his helpers.

DAWSONphoto Thank you so much for the photos available to search. I am not as familiar with websites as many others are so I am not sure about what I do with the thumbnail code. I copied it but I can't get the photo and Ancestry doesn't take the information as a link. I understand you don't want photos put on other websites, like Andestry, but how do you use that code? Anyone help me? (Accidentally put James with the surname after reading I should add the first name so now I am putting the same comment under just Dawson.)

DEVONThank You I would just like to thank you wholeheartedly for your help in allowing me to trace my family roots in the Lake district. I live in Belfast and although I've visited the Lake district on a holiday and a school trip when I was young and was in fact in that area, I would never have been able to find the graves without the help of your database - in fact I didn't even know that they existed, I found out from your database by accident on Google. From the information on the graves I have been able to find the exact cottage (Bram Cragg)in the Lake district where my great great grandparents lived, by looking up the 1901 census. The farm has been renovated for holiday accommodation and there are many photographs of it online which I have been able to download. Many many many thanks for all your help. Sandra McTear, Belfast.

The gravestone listed the names of people with the same last name as me who are from the area where my family emigrated from in the 1850s. I am researching if the people are relations of mine. The pictures were a big assistance and I appreciated them.

DORNANPumpherston Oil Tank DisasterAn extremely useful and user-friendly site. Iam researching a branch of the Thomson family in the Scorttisg Borders. My earliest confirmed dates are the 1790s with Gideon Thomson in Eddleston, marrying firdt Elizabeth Dickson, who presumably died in childbirth, and later Margaret Hope with whom he had four sons and a daughter, Margaret. She married into the Wilkie family and in the 1930s a Wilkie was the second husnaband of Mary Dornan, marrying by declaration in Edinburgh, hence my interest in the Dornans. The Wilkie, a chartered surveyor died 1959sh, in Dumfries. I can find no subsequent ecord of Mary's death in Scotland. I would appreciate any help in this matter. Michael Thomson.

DOWSONThank you very much Charles Thank you very much indeed Charles for sending me the image of my maternal Great great Grandparents Margaret and Robert Dowson's headstone and the surprise added image you sent of their youngest son William Dowson birth year 1885 and his wife Annie(nee Showler)birth year 1884, I have also since discovered William and Annie's baby son William birth year 1921 was also burried there on 27 January 1922 he was age 10 months, he died 24 January. Annie was in the very early stages of pregnancy when her husband William died, I found this so sad that she lost both her loved ones in such a short time of each other. Also Margaret Dowson's birth year was 1854 and Robert Dowson birth year was 1853 he died May 15th 1943 aged 90 years, and not 1947 as stated, As I have side before this is a fantastic useful & very resourceful service that you have so kindly provided along with your team of volunteers it's a brilliant website. It has been a great help to me as I live in France and am not able to visit the cemetery myself. I regularly visit your website now as I am still researching the many branches of my family and I am always hopeful of finding images of my families members monuments. Requesting photos save the journey of actualy visiting the cemetery/graveyard although I have to say it is a lazy way and takes the fun out of trailing round them but If there is only one monument available then the GPR is well worth it. DUNDEE-HOOPERupdateStewart Briscoe Dundee-Hooper was born 18 Sept 1893 in Torquay South Devon. His father was Harry Dundee-Hooper a solicitor in Torquay. His mother was Agnes Maria Stewart. It was a tragic accident that led to his death at the age of 22 on 15 Aug 1916 on Submarine E4 when she collided with her sister ship Sub E41. Both ships sank and there were 14 survivors, all from Sub E41. Both ships were salvaged, repaired and put back into service.

DUNLOPAdam Dunlop Gravestone at Wick (Old Municipal Cemetery)Thankyou so much for the photo of Adam Dunlop's Gravestone (Wick) Adam was originally from Maybole, Ayrshire and a brother of my gt.gt grandfather Joseph. Joseph's daughter, Elizabeth, came to New Zealand and married Thomas Hall here in Dunedin, NZ. The Hall Family was originally from Clackmannanshire. Many of the cemeteries here in Dunedin have online databases and the Southern Cemetery where Elizabeth and Thomas are buried also has photos of the headstones. This is through the Dunedin City Council Cemeteries Database. Thanks again - great service. .... more

DURRANDDURRAND/GUNNI have been researching my mother's family tree. She was the grand-daughter of James Durrand/Elizabeth Gunn from Wick and daughter of their son Charles. Was wondering if any of their descendants are interested in providing some family history. My mother and her siblings are now deceased and I am not acquainted with any other directly related Durrands. They lived in Glasgow. My mother immigrated to the US in 1961; where I presently reside. Thanks!
