Introduction

This page contains a list of all the entries for the maiden name WARD that are held within the Gravestone Photographic Resource online database. It is quite likely that there are also entries available for alternative spellings of this name. It is very easy for you to check to see if there are any alternative spellings: you just need to look at the page that shows all the names listed under the starting letter (W in this case) of the maiden name you are interested in.

If you click on a particular name or GPR reference number above you will see details of what information is held for that particular person. If there is an image available then you will be able to order a free copy of it.

If you click on a particular church, parish or town name above then you will see details of all the grave monument images that are available for that particular location.

Please note that all ages and dates of birth in red have been calculated and are probably not on the monument.

You should treat the calculated dates of birth with caution as the ages given on monuments are often inaccurate. The dates and ages on many monuments are also often hard to read. It is therefore important to use the dates as guides as they may be incorrect.

The same person may appear many times in the above list. This is because a person can easily be listed on many different monuments. For instance, a person could be listed on their own grave as well as on the gravestone monuments of their children and their spouse. Occasionally names will be duplicated because the monument has in error been photographed and indexed twice.

Where a relationship is shown as unknown, this usually means that parts of the monument are illegible and relationship cannot be read.

Where no relationship is given this means that this is normally the first name on the monument. All the relationships on any particular monument relate to this first named individual.

In most cases images are available. However sometimes they will unavailable. Often this is because although images have been taken they were unfortunately lost when the resource suffered a major computer fault and not all the images could be recovered.

Thank you for the photo of my great grandparents grave - Ann Amelia and John Thomas Ward. I live in Australia and have had to rely on available records. I assumed my great grandparents were born in the 1860s but thankfully your site has provided correct dates. My grandmother Beatrice Ward married Albert Corbett and they emigrated to Australia in 1921 so I don't have any information about her parents and siblings - although I do remember her talking about her sister - Tot? I would love to make contact with any remaining family or anyone who knew of them I have made a donation through PayPal on your site Sincerely Lesley McCormick

Thank you
What a wonderful idea for those of us who are not local. Unfortunately we discovered the link with Fewston only a couple of weeks after spending a few days in Yorkshire or we would have visited and photographed them for ourselves.

Further details of Grave No. 113282
Walter Ward (relationship shown as "unknown") was in fact the son of Elizabeth and John Ward. According to the 1861 Census, he was born around 1805 in Barnstaple. He married Ann Eastman, probably around 1830.

A wonderful resource - thank you so much!
Thank you for responding so quickly and providing such high-quality images. My ancestors were not wealthy people, and there were very few photographs taken of them during their lifetime. It means a lot to me to be able to see these images, which help to illustrate my family history. I feel inspired to make the journey to visit these graves next summer.

Great resource. I lived in Leeds for 18 years and knew I had a great great uncle at Lawnswood but didn't know there were other ancesters there. I never visited Lawnswood so this has been a fantastic find. Many thanks.

Burial Grounds in the Tadcaster area
Please would you be able to advise me? I am trying to find the graves of my WARD ancestors who died in the 1800's, and lived in Tadcaster and from the 1880's in Stutton. Several children were baptised Methodist, and then 'Primitive Methodist'. Would they be buried in the Church of England churchyard, or is there a seperate Methodist burial ground in the area? I am particularly interested in William Ward who died in Stutton in 1890. Any advise you can give me would greatly be appreciated. Thank you.

Many thanks for your prompt and efficient service, it is such a help to family tree researchers such as myself. When time allows, I will undertake to take some photos of headstones in my local churchyard as means of help.
