Introduction

This page contains a list of all the entries for the maiden name STEEL that are held within the Gravestone Photographic Resource online database. It is quite likely that there are also entries available for alternative spellings of this name. It is very easy for you to check to see if there are any alternative spellings: you just need to look at the page that shows all the names listed under the starting letter (S in this case) of the maiden name you are interested in.

If you click on a particular name or GPR reference number above you will see details of what information is held for that particular person. If there is an image available then you will be able to order a free copy of it.

If you click on a particular church, parish or town name above then you will see details of all the grave monument images that are available for that particular location.

Please note that all ages and dates of birth in red have been calculated and are probably not on the monument.

You should treat the calculated dates of birth with caution as the ages given on monuments are often inaccurate. The dates and ages on many monuments are also often hard to read. It is therefore important to use the dates as guides as they may be incorrect.

The same person may appear many times in the above list. This is because a person can easily be listed on many different monuments. For instance, a person could be listed on their own grave as well as on the gravestone monuments of their children and their spouse. Occasionally names will be duplicated because the monument has in error been photographed and indexed twice.

Where a relationship is shown as unknown, this usually means that parts of the monument are illegible and relationship cannot be read.

Where no relationship is given this means that this is normally the first name on the monument. All the relationships on any particular monument relate to this first named individual.

In most cases images are available. However sometimes they will unavailable. Often this is because although images have been taken they were unfortunately lost when the resource suffered a major computer fault and not all the images could be recovered.

Help Request - Corfu - Roddick Murdoch Steel
My uncle died in Corfu in 2009. His name was Roddick Murdoch Steel. All his family live in Australia and he we have never seen his grave. We would be very grateful if someone could add a photo of his gravestone. We believe that may be buried next to his wife Margaret Steel nee Clancy, who dies some years earlier, Rodd was born on 28.12.1928 in Australia and he died on 11.11.2009. He competed for Australia in fencing at the 1956 Olympics.

Isabella (Steel) Oliphant
Thank you to all the volunteers of this site. I am the family historian for my family, and I truly appreciate the dedication that has been put into this site. Most people have no idea the thousands of hours that are put into such a project such as this. Your beautiful detailed photo of the Oliphant family monument is very much appreciated. I am able to see my ancestor, Isabella Steel, wife of Walter Oliphant quite clearly. The photo is an invaluable resource to my tree. Again, thank you all very much.

Many Thanks
Thank you so much for the very clear image. You have saved me from yet another, probably cold and wet, search around a cemetery.

Thank you very much for rapid response to a headstone photo request. It saved a lot of time and travel I did not know it existed until viewed on your site.

Thanks
Thanks very much for the photograph of the headstone for one of the people I'm writing about. I would not have known it even existed if an online search hadn't linked to your site. Keep up the great work.
