What am amazing resource
I just want to thank Charles and all the volunteers for providing such a wonderful resource for family historians. It has been especially helpful for me, exploring my family from my grandmother's side who had their roots in Suffolk, England. Thank you again

Herbert William Leonard Southgate
Thank you for the link to the picture of his memorial in his local church. Herbert William Leonard Southgate was a Kew Gardens trained gardener, an orchid specialist who was born in East Dereham, Norfolk and enlisted in his county regiment in WW1. As his plaque shows, he was killed in action at the Batlle of Gaza. Prior to Kew, He worked at Rainham Hall and Westonbirt Gardens, Glos. He is remembered on the Kew Gardens staff war memorial. Research from the Kew WW1 section of the World War Zoo Gardens / Gardener 1939 blog on Wordpress. many thanks for the image. Mark Norris, World War Zoo Gardens project research blog.
