About the THOMPSON names held within the GPR

This page contains a list of all the entries for the surname, maiden and family name THOMPSON that are held within the Gravestone Photographic Resource online database. It is quite likely that there are also entries available for alternative spellings of this name. It is very easy for you to check to see if there are any alternative spellings: you just need to look at the page that shows all the names listed under the starting letter (T in this case) of the surname you are interested in.

The THOMPSON name may also be found within either maiden or family names stored within the GPR.

If you click on a particular name or GPR reference number above you will see details of what information is held for that particular grave monument. If there is a high quality image available then you will be able to order a free copy of it.

If you click on a particular church, parish or town name above then you will see details of all the grave monument images that are available for that particular location.

If there is a blank in the relationship column above then it means that this person is the first named individual on the grave monument.

If you are interested in ordering a number of different images from different graves monuments, it may help if you list in grave order so that everyone mentioned on the same monument are listed together.

Please note that all ages and dates of birth listed in the above list that are shown in red have been calculated and are probably not on the monument.

You should treat the calculated dates of birth with caution as the ages given on monuments are often inaccurate. The dates and ages on many monuments are also often hard to read. It is therefore important to use the dates as guides as they may be incorrect.

The same person may appear many times in the above list. This is because a person can easily be listed on many different monuments. For instance, a person could be listed on their own grave as well as on the gravestone monuments of their children and their spouse. Occasionally names will be duplicated because the monument has in error been photographed and indexed twice.

Where a relationship is shown as unknown, this usually means that parts of the monument are illegible and relationship cannot be read.

Where no relationship is given this means that this is normally the first name on the monument. All the relationships on any particular monument relate to this first named individual.

If there is no burial date then it is likely that they are not buried at this location. Please note that the GPR records ALL names on monuments.

incorrect image

Your service is amazing and I am really grateful to all involved. However the image you have for the grave of Mary Ethel Thompson is not correct. It is an image of the grave of other family members. To put it another way images of graves 24090 and 24059 are of the same grave. Mary Ethel Thompson died and was born in 1890, her parents were William E Thompson 1850-1931 and Mary Ann Thompson 1854-1931.

Thank you for making this possible

HLF Thompson's grandfather, father of Henry the former vicar, was briefly married, 1890, to Jane, my great grandmother. Jane's grandson by a later child was my father, Harry, which is possible where the name came from. My middle name is Harry. Martin Harry Watson.

Wonderful Gift to Genealogists

Thank you, Charles, for helping those of us searching for our families. We are descended from Lucy Croft, daughter of Henry Thompson. Our daughter's middle name is Croft, so we are keeping the Croft tradition going in America. You are very kind to continue assisting far-flung families in remembering our ancestors. With sincere appreciation, Laurie

Did Elizabeth died before she married???

Firstly, many thanks for the photo Charles. The information on it is however curious. The Henry data fits my ancestor exactly, as does his first wife Mary Jane (preferred to be mostly known as just Jane). Problem is with second wife Elizabeth. The headstone gives her death as 7 Oct 1891 but the only marriage registration I can find, anywhere, between a fitting Henry and an Elizabeth (maiden name unknown) was in Dec quarter 1891 ref Stockton 10a 69. Any ideas anyone??

THOMPSON/PANNETT/STREETER

Can you tell me if the information you provide for a graveyard covers all of them in that particular church? The reason I ask is that death records found for my own area indicate that more people of the same name may be interned there in which case I would need to visit personally in order to further my research. Kind regards and my thanks agin for information already provided.
