Pte Joseph Hazel (b1882)was shot by a sniper after surviving a battle on the Somme He had gone to fetch water.Buried by his colleagues on he battlefield he is one of the lost and his name appears on the Monument at Theipval in France.In his youth he had also been a soldier before working on the docks unloading the ships at Middlesbrough. Married to the daughter of the family he lodged with (originally he was from Hartlepool)his wife was Elizabeth Ellen Bunn(b1882) and they had three daughters Sarah Elizabeth Hazel(b1906) the eldest,Edith Evelyn Hazel(b1908) and Nora Louise Hazel(b1912)His father was James Llares Hazel. Both families originated from Norfolk
