Thomas Chidgey was a sailor who sailed on various Watchet vessels. He was later the Mate on the Watchet based ketch 'Thomasine & Mary'. I believe he fell down a hatch and badly injured his back, possibly leading to his early death aged 53. I have a photograph of him in a 'basket' wheelchair with a single front wheel.
