Son of a local silk manufacturer who was arrested as a moderate opponent during the French Revolution but later rose to local prominence. Pierre Romain was present in 1814 at the examination of the tomb of the former King Stanislas 1st of Poland (father-in-law of Louis XV) who ruled Lorraine from 1737-1766.
