Please note that all ages and dates of birth in red have been calculated and are probably not on the monument.

The calculated dates of birth should be treated with caution as in many cases it can be one year out.

The calculated dates of birth should also be treated with caution as the ages given on monuments are often inaccurate.

The names above are all the names that are listed on the grave monument. It is most likely that only the entries with dates and ages are interred in the grave.

Goodmorning, My family is currently on holiday in Scotland and they noted the name Gifford. My mothers maiden name is Gifford and we through that the family came from the Suffolk area in England? After a little bit a research I discovered Lord Adam Gifford, his legal work and the Gifford lectureship. I am trying to find out if the family moved up to Scotland? Thank you, Adam p.s. I live in Australia and this web site has been very interesting for me to see my families history.
Pure curiosity. I am a fan of Lord Gifford and his lecture series. I have read a biography and some small snipets of his work that were included in that work. I even made it through one set of published lectures! Also, since I will probably never get to Edinburgh, and Old Calton Cemetery, I would like to see his grave and you are the only one who seems to have one. Seeing the note below this box, I will offer a thanks in advance and promise to acknowledge receiving it if you so choose to send it. Thanks again.
John Gifford (brother of Adam Lord Gifford) is my great great grandfather.
