Paul Verlet1890321922 Paul Verlet joined the army in August 1914; and was wounded 6 times in hand-to-hand combat in Artois in 1915. he returned to the front the same year and was wounded again and almost killed; and returned once again to the front in 1916 and was finally invalided out of the army due to a gas attack. In 1919 he published his poems written during the war and became one of the 'vocies' of his comrades. He died of complications to his wounds in 1922. He was the son of the sculptor Raoul Verlet; and afriend of the composer Gustave Charpentier.

Laura Clifford Barney-Dreyfus1879951974 Educated in France; she converted to the Bahai faith and became one of the principal proponents of the faith in France and the USA. She served in the American Ambulance Corps and the American Red Cross in WW1; and helped to found the children's hopsital in Avignon in 1918. She married Hippolyte Dreyfus.

Louis Ernest Barrias1840651905 Louis-Ernest was a sculptor. He won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1861; and was engaged on the building of the Opéra de Paris. He later became a professor at the school of Fine Arts; and was elected to the Academy of Fine Arts. His works can be found in the Musée d'Orsay.

He was captured in Holland and interned in Silesia; but escaped in 1945 and rejoined the Allied Forces as liaison officer to General Patton. AFter the war he had a distinguished displomatic career; and remained friends with Viscount Montgomery.

Sophie 1810 In 1806 the German Princes of Leyen purchased the county of Hohengeroldseck from the Austrian empire; and were raised to the status of a French puppet state in the Rhine Confederation. In 1815 the state joined the German Confederation; and in 1819 it was absorbed by the state of Baden.
Charles de Tascher de la Pagerie1811581869 He was a cousin of the Empress Josephine (his godmother) through her paternal line; and later rose to be first chamberlain to the king of Bavaria and then to the Empress Eugènie; wife of Napoléon III of France. He was also a member of the French Parliament. He was the grandson of Princess Sophie of Leyen and Hohengeroldseck; and a distant cousin of the British historian Lord Acton.

In 1929 he partnered Dieudonné Costes (also buried in this cemetery) on the first Paris-China flight; and in 1930 they made the first transatlantic flight from Paris to New York. Amongst his mistresses was the daughrer of Baron Reuter; founder of the news agency. A noted sports enthusiast; he founded several cups for aviation; polo and football. His mausoleum is anonymous: no names or dates appear.
