Appointed Sherriff-Depute of Edinburgh in 1793. Inherited house and estate of Craighall-Rattray in Perthshire in 1799; through the relationship of his grandmother. Assumed additional surname of Rattray; which is did not use until 1816/17. Appointed a Baron of Exchequer in 1809. One of the 7 original trustees of St John's responsible for finding the money to purchase the site and build the church. Married on 3rd January 1791 to Jane Duff; she died on 6th July. They were the parents of 2 sons and 1 daughter. James died on 29th August; at Craighall-Rattray although he had been heavily involved in the life of Edinburgh and especially St. John's. | ||||||||

George Pape | 79 | Born in England; the eldest of two sons and a daughter. Joined the Board of Excise (fore-runner of Inland Revenue) and became Secretary to the Scottish section in 1823. Head office at that time was Dundas House in St. Andrew Square; now the Royal Bank of Scotland. Became Collector of Excise in Dublin when the Scottish board was closed down in 1830. He returned to Edinburgh and married on 1st November 1842. They lived at Coltbridge House where George died on 12th October. He is interred in Vault No. 11. On his return to Scotland; George and his family moved into No.4 Atholl Crescent in 1835. All 5 sons had either civil service or military careers in India. So did 5 of George's brothers; 3 of his uncles and a cousin. George died at Atholl Crescent on 17th June; Anne Elizabeth died in June. Window was erected in July 1860 by his widow and second son. | ||
