In Memory of Thos. Bishop who was drownded Nov 11th 1807, Aged 33 Years Please note - the age is 33, not 88. This is the same Thomas Bishop who is commemorated, on the Sheringham Memorial to Fishermen lost at sea. Two boats capsized within a few yards of the shore in the Great Storm of Nov 11th 1807. Five other men were lost in the same disaster. He was born in Feb 1775 and was married.

Gods Will Be Done. As a tribute of respect to the memory of the sufferers; and of deep compassion for their sorrowing families; their common landlord; Beilby Thompson of Escrick Park has errected this monument.
