GEORGEPrivate George Brookes, Rank Number 4459, born Wrockwardine Wood, Shropshire. Son of William & Eliza Brookes. George had 5 siblings, Emma b 1868, William b 1872, Samuel b 1873, Thomas b 1875 and Florence b 1877.
George's brother Thomas married a Lilian Turner and they had Annie b 1898, Albert b 1902 (my grandad), Gladys b 1904, Horace b 1907, George b 1908 and Norah b 1910.
Private George Brookes was gassed in the First World War, he was discharged from the Army on 26th August 1915 aged 43 years and 84 days. He died on the 29th August 1915.

THANKSthanks so much for the photo of Private George Brookes's gravestone, this is the completion of another missing link in my dad's family tree. What a wonderful resource of information you have.
I will keep checking through to see if I can find anymore of my dad's relatives.

William Richard Brookes, memorial inside the churchThanks for this site, it solved the mystery death date and burial of Eleanor Brookes! I wonder if there are any photographs of memorials inside the church as I have seen a list of names which contains both Eleanor and her father William Richard Brookes on that list. It was posted noting it as the index to the Mural, Monuments & Memorials inside the Church. I also wonder if WR's gravesite is somewhere in the St Nicholas churchyard? I do not see it listed.
