A name listed within double quotes (e.g. Thomas Douglas "Doug" in the above list) is either a nickname or pet name.

If a person you searching for is not listed then have a look at the alternative spellings of the surname SMITH by looking at all the surnames starting with the letters SM.

If that fails then use the Full Name Search with just the surname SMITH.This will give you similar names as well as entries for maiden and family names.

Introduction

This page contains a list of all the entries for the surname, maiden and family name SMITH that are held within the Gravestone Photographic Resource online database. It is quite likely that there are also entries available for alternative spellings of this name. It is very easy for you to check to see if there are any alternative spellings: you just need to look at the page that shows all the names listed under the starting letter (S in this case) of the surname you are interested in.

The SMITH name may also be found within either maiden or family names stored within the GPR.

If you click on a particular name or GPR reference number below you will see details of what information is held for that particular grave monument. If there is an image available then you will be able to order a free copy of it.

If you click on a particular church, parish or town name below then you will see details of all the grave monument images that are available for that particular location.

If there is a blank in the relationship column below then it means that this person is the first named individual on the grave monument.

If you are interested in ordering a number of different images, it may help if you list in grave order so that everyone mentioned on the same monument are listed together.

google ad

Please note that all ages and dates of birth in red have been calculated and are probably not on the monument.

You should treat the calculated dates of birth with caution as the ages given on monuments are often inaccurate. The dates and ages on many monuments are also often hard to read. It is therefore important to use the dates as guides as they may be incorrect.

The same person may appear many times in the above list. This is because a person can easily be listed on many different monuments. For instance, a person could be listed on their own grave as well as on the gravestone monuments of their children and their spouse. Occasionally names will be duplicated because the monument has in error been photographed and indexed twice.

Where a relationship is shown as unknown, this usually means that parts of the monument are illegible and relationship cannot be read.

Where no relationship is given this means that this is normally the first name on the monument. All the relationships on any particular monument relate to this first named individual.

I knew this stone was in this cemetery, but couldn't find due to overgrown vegetation. Thankyou to your photographer. Nearby stones of her husband & son were lost during stray bomb blast in world war 2.

Walter O Smith's memorial stone

I will thrilled to finally find a memorial to my great-uncle Walter Osborne-Smith. He is buried in Feuchy Chapel British Cemetery, Wancourt France but it is nice to know he has a memorial in the Village he lived with his wife. Thanks for the photo.

Jeremiah Smith

What an excellent website. I'm not sure that the photo sent is of the people I am searching for - not the best surname to be researching! - but it has given me a possibility to pursue further. Many thanks.

Thank you for posting the photo. For 200 plus years that stone has weathered well, can't read much, but I'm happy to have the connection.

Great resourse

I was so excited to see the headstone of my 4 times great grandparents. John Smith and Susannah. The request was very fast and it was very wonderful to see such an old headstone. One that I probably won't ever get to see in real life.

Appreciation of this valuable resource

Thanks Charles for the very prompt receipt of three images requested; I am absolutely in awe of the time and dedication you and your fellow volunteers give to this fabulous resource. I will be coming back time and again to gain further information/confirmation on my family tree. I am currently looking at my Smith line in Ifield but have many other names I would like to follow up on. Well done to all!

Photo request

Thank you so much for sending the memorial photo of my relative Hume Smith. It is so exciting to find out that he helped to build the Fourth Bridge. On his death certificate it just says skull injury but nothing more. Again, I do appreciate all your work. I did notice, however on the one page "The Men who died building the Fourth Bridge" they have his name as Hum Smith without the e.
