The gravestone photographic resource project is an attempt to provide a much needed on-line resource for family historians.
The main focus of the project is to digitally photograph and index all UK grave monuments for people born before 1900 that are currently legible
The project has already photographed and indexed a number of East Anglian graveyards but there is still much to be done.
However a number of volunteers have taken photos from around the world including Queensland and
Victoria in Australia as well as Cyprus.
Other volunteers from Cannada, New Zealand and USA are currently photographing cemeteries and these will be added to the resource once they arrive.
To further enhance the information provided by the project, a number of topics relating to burial monuments will be added to the site
These topics will include:
- Damage to grave monuments
- Stone mansons and their craft
- Litchen that grow on monuments
- Wildlife with churchyards
- Unusual architecture
- Interesting and famous graves
- How and why grave monuments become illegible
