The son of one of Napoléon's favourite generals of the same name; Ordener distinguished himself by his bravery and devotion to the emperor. Commissioned at the age of 15; he was appointed ADC to his father and escaped death at the battle of Austerlitz in 1806 when he was awarded the Légion d'Honneur at the age of 19. He then became ADC to Marshal Duroc; and in 1808 Duroc sent Ordener to announce the surrender of Baylen to Napoléon. He then served with Duroc in Spain and Austria; and was appointed a chevalier of the empire at the age of 22. He was seriously wounded in the Russian campaign of 1812 but continued to fight; and was appointed colonel at the age of 25. In 1813 he was promoted in the Légion d'Honneur; and and in 1815 he rallied to Napoléon. He fought at Waterloo and was sacked from the army for his loyalty to the former emperor. In 1830 with the fall of the Bourbons he was recalled to active service; and fought in Belgium; and was promoted to general the same year. In 1852 he was elected to the Senate.
