English first names William James (Santiago). Born in England; reputedly in Axminster; Devon. Son of an English plantation owner in Cuba; William Drake; and Mary Spence. They owned 'Saratoga' plantation; reputed to be one of the finest on the island. Married Carlota Maxima des Rosario Nunez del Castillo y Perez de Abreu. Two sons of William and Carlotta used their fortunes to settle in France and Paris. In 1865; Drake and Co were marketing what appears to have been a 'hangover' cure in the USA made on their plantation.
