Source: Le médecine française et les juifs 1939-45 by H.Nahum: Hirschberg 'covered himself in glory' during the First World War as a member of the Marine Fusiliers … He was arrested on 27th July 1943; deported to Auschwitz; then transferred to Buchenwald; then thrown into the evacuee colmuns when the Russian troops were approaching; and died in April 1945. According to another source; he died with his wife during the Nazi evacuation of Bergen-Belsen. He was a distinguished hospital doctor who had created the radiography vans in Northern France.
