Henry Farman and his brothers Maurice and Richard were aviation pionneers; born in Paris to a British journalist and French mother. Henry became a champion cyclist in the 1890s; then competed in motor racing for Renault at the turn of the century. In 1908; he made a string of 'first' flights (1km; 2km; cross-country; and with a passenger). He went into partnership with his brothers as an aircraft manufacturer and built some of the most successful WW1 reconnaissance planes; and later the first long-dsiatnce passenger planes from Paris to Croydon.
