The inscription reads: 'In loving memory of the Rev. Eugene Sweny for 23 years Rector of this parish and Morston who departed this life on May 18th 1906 aged 69'. Eugene, the eldest son of John Paget Sweny, coachbuilder and undertaker,and Matilda, nee Yeates,was born in Dublin on 7 Aug 1836. After his ordination he took a position in Donegal as curate and then rector until 1883 when he became rector in Morston, in Norfolk. He married Elizabeth Ovens, the daughter of Rev. James Ovens, in 1866. They had six children.
