Samuel Y Dunn was born 1889 in Askam Lancs to Frederick A Dunn and Martha Jane (formerly Davies) who moved to the area from Denbigh. Samuel seems to have been the only surviving son of 11 children. He enlisted in Whitehaven aged 25 to the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders. He was listed as missing in action in France & Flanders on 25 September 1915 and assumed dead in 1916. His family moved back to Llangollen some time before 1919 giving their address as Aled House Market St. Llangollen.
