12-year-old Owen Jenkins went into the water at Beeston Weir to save one of his friends who was unable to swim. Jorgie Myers, had gone into the water with another girl. She said that suddenly she couldn't feel the bottom anymore, and had screamed for help from Chilwell School pupil Owen, who had gone in to help both girls. He rescued her, but was then pulled away by the water. Owen tragically lost his own life.
