James Charles Stuart was the eldest son. Joined the Madras establishment of the Honourable East India Company. Married his first wife whilst on leave and took her back to India; where she died leaving a 6 year old daughter. James went on a voyage of exploration from India to the north-west coast of America. Lost his money; but by the time he retired in 1797 he had made a fortune. Became a banker in London and an M.P. Married for the second time on 18th December 1798. James' bank failed and he was left penniless; so again joined the H.E.I.C and took his new wife there in 1805. He made another fortune and left … 1816. They were the parents of two daughters and lived at No.7 Ainslie Place. Died on 6th October at Airth Castle; Stirlingshire. Interred in the south-east corner of the top part of the east burial ground.
