The second wife of Thomas Hancock, she married him in 1864, 2 years after the death of his first wife. Mary Jane was the daughter of mason Richard Gibbs and his wife Mary [nee Reed]. Mary Jane and Thomas had 5 children together, to add to the 10 Thomas had with his first wife. After her husband's death, Mary Jane rebuilt the Lamb Inn and turned it into the Lamb Hotel which , at the time was the height of modernity and offered all modern conveniences.
