Austrian pianist born in Trieste; who studied under Czerny and possibly with Chopin and Liszt. He had a successful international career in the USA (he was considered the finest pianist ever to have visited; and introduced the opera signer Adeline Patti to the American public ) and Europe; and was court pianist to the king of Hanover. His pupils included Samuel Sanford and Benjamin Johnson Lang.
