My father was the nephew of Robert Gemmel Hutchison and passed many happy stories of him to me, Eleanor, and my brother. As children my father James M Hutchison and his sisters spent holidays with him in Edinburgh where the paintings littered the house. My aunts told me on several occasions that the little boy in the Gundy Man painting is my father. He appears twice in the painting, once in each half of the canvas. My grandfather, James Squair Forman, was Robert's brother.
