Robert Cochrane Williamson is listed in Rachel Britton's article on 'Wealthy Scots, 1876-1913' in Historical Research (58), p.88, as an Edinburgh rentier with a Scottish estate of £246,649. He may be the textile merchant trading in Manchester and Calcutta who began Williamson Brothers in 1854. This company was the focus of a celebrated English court case, Williamson v Barbour, in 1877 that formed important precedents in company law.
