Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

A distant relative
(requested on 22 08 2011)
I am married to Rosemary Leslie, daughter of Beryl Leslie whose father was Ebenezer Leslie (b 23/12/1873), who came to the Natal colony in South Africa in the late 1800's and became postmaster in Vryheid, Natal. Ebenezer's father was Robert Leslie and his mother Elizabeth Coghill. For our 50th wedding anniversary, we will be visiting the Isandwlana battlefields where a Lt Coghill was awarded a posthumus VC for saving the Queen's Colours. We a curious to establish whether there is any relationship between Elizabeth Coghill and Lt. Coghill
(requested on 28 03 2014)
John Smith Leslie was married to Bessie Marie Elmer, my mother's paternal aunt.
(requested on 02 04 2017)
Robert Leslie's brother John moved to Ireland after the death of his first wife Diana Flett. The descendants of his second (Irish) wife who also died early, have recently become aware of their Scottish ancestry and three generations of men proudly carry the name Robert, the first named after this Robert Leslie.

Following VC Graves
(requested on 09 09 2021)
I am tracing Victoria Cross medal winners and think there is a Coghill VC on this memorial of Robert Leslie. The VC was received for action in the Zulu Wars and also features in the film Zulu.
