1914281886first name on monument9473 Pte BELL Christopher – King’s Own Scottish Borderers – 2nd Battalion Christopher died of shrapnel wounds on Tuesday 27 October 1914 in hospital in Brighton, England. Christopher was 28 years of age and part of 13th Brigade 5th Division, II Corps. Prior to the war he was employed in the Polmadie Locomotive Works of Messrs Dubbs & Company. He was born Carstairs enlisted Dumfries, the son of James Bell and brother of Jane and Janet. At the time of his death, he resided in Govanhill Street, Govanhill, Glasgow. Christopher’s soldier’s effects of £7 14s 4d were paid to his sisters, Mrs Jane Dick and Mrs Janet Alexander, each receiving £3 17s 2d on 06 March 1915. His war gratuity of £5 0s 0d. was paid Mrs Jane Dick, for distribution, on 25 August 1919.
