L/cpl Cecil Herbert Norton WW1 | 24/04/1915 | 33 | 1882 | Cecil Herbert Norton (1881-1915) was, son of the Rev. Philip Norton (Rector of Brandon Parva) & his wife Louisa Jane née Edmunds. He entered King's School (Worcester) as a day boy in September, 1892, at the age of 11, in the Third Form. He rose steadily, and won a King’s Scholarship in 1896. He left two years later from the Sixth Form to enter a firm of Engineers. In 1904 he migrated to Canada to take up farming. He returned to England at the outbreak of WW1 with the First Canadian Contingent. He rose to be Corporal, he was posted missing on 29th April 1915, aged 33, after the battle of Neuve Chapelle. A cross in the churchyard also commemorates him. |
